Qianji Privacy Policy

Last Updated: 2026-07-17

1. Introduction

Welcome to Qianji. This Privacy Policy explains how AppForges ("we", "us", or "our") handles your information when you use the Qianji application. Qianji is an offline-first technical reading app for iOS/iPadOS, Android, and HarmonyOS NEXT. All articles and images ship inside the app, and the core features — reading, search, bookmarks, and notes — run entirely on your device. There is no account system, and we do not collect your name, email address, phone number, reading history, or app-usage data. The in-app purchase flow processes limited technical and transaction data that does not directly identify you (see Section 3).

By using Qianji, you agree to the data practices described in this policy.

2. Identity, Reading, and Usage Information We Do Not Collect

Data minimization is a core design principle of Qianji: - No account system: using Qianji requires no registration or sign-in, and we do not collect your name, email address, phone number, or other directly identifying information - We do not collect your reading history, search history, bookmarks, highlights, or notes — this data stays on your device (see Section 4) - We integrate no analytics, crash-reporting, advertising, or push-notification SDKs, and we do not track your reading or app-usage behavior - We show no ads, build no user profiles, and never sell data to any third party

All articles and images are bundled in the app package. Core features such as reading and search run fully offline and generate no network requests. Even with no connection at all, free content and unlocked content remain fully readable and searchable.

At the system-permission level: on iOS, the app requests no privacy permissions whatsoever — no camera, photo library, location, or microphone; on HarmonyOS, it declares no permissions at all; on Android, it declares only the network (INTERNET) permission, which is used solely for in-app purchases (see Section 3) — never for content loading, analytics, or any form of data reporting.

3. Technical and Transaction Data Required for Purchases

Qianji follows a "free preview + one-time purchase" model. The network activity described in this section occurs only when you use the in-app purchase features (viewing prices, placing an order, or restoring and verifying entitlements); if you never use them, the app initiates no data transmission at all.

3.1 Anonymous Purchase Identifier On first launch, the app generates a random anonymous identifier (a UUID) locally on your device. It is not linked to your name, email address, or any other identifying information; it is used only to mark which device a purchase belongs to and to support order verification and entitlement lookups. Deleting the app deletes this identifier.

3.2 iOS/iPadOS Purchases are completed through Apple's StoreKit 2. The related network requests are made by Apple system services; the app itself opens no network connections of its own. At purchase time, the anonymous identifier above is attached to Apple's transaction record as supplementary transaction data (appAccountToken).

3.3 HarmonyOS NEXT Purchases are completed through Huawei's in-app payment service (IAP Kit). The related network requests are made by Huawei system services; the app itself declares no network permission. The anonymous identifier is attached to Huawei's transaction record as supplementary transaction data (developerPayload).

3.4 Android Purchases are completed through our own billing service (api.appforges.com). The app communicates with this service only during the purchase flow — to fetch product prices, create orders, and check order status and purchase entitlements — transmitting the anonymous identifier along with product and order details. In addition, on launch the app may query the billing service once for your entitlement status, to keep purchased content unlocked. Payment itself takes place on the WeChat Pay or Alipay checkout page opened in your system browser; the app embeds no WeChat or Alipay SDK, and we never touch your card number, payment account, or payment password.

As with any network service, our billing servers process an anonymous UUID, IP address, order information, and access logs when handling purchase requests. This data does not contain your name, email address, or phone number and is used only to operate the purchase service, monitor availability, and diagnose issues — never for profiling, advertising, or cross-app tracking. We retain it only for as long as necessary for those purposes: access and diagnostic logs are deleted or anonymized when no longer needed; order and entitlement records are retained as needed to unlock content, restore purchases, process refunds, reconcile transactions, or meet legal obligations, and are then deleted or anonymized. Outside the purchase flow described in this section, Qianji makes no other network requests.

4. Local Data Storage

Qianji stores the following five kinds of data locally on your device: - Bookmarks - Reading progress - Highlights - Notes - Preferences (such as font size and theme) This data lives in the app's private sandbox directory (SwiftData on iOS, a Room database on Android, and a relational database plus preferences storage on HarmonyOS) and is protected by the operating system's sandboxing mechanism.

The app also keeps locally a search index derived from the data above, along with a purchase-status cache and the anonymous purchase identifier.

The current version offers no cloud sync or cross-device sync; none of this data is uploaded to any server. Uninstalling the app deletes all local data (including bookmarks, notes, and the anonymous identifier), and we cannot recover it — please save anything you want to keep before uninstalling.

Android system backup: on Android devices, your local database participates in Android's built-in cloud backup and device-migration mechanisms. This backup is controlled by the Android system and your device account settings, and the data is never transmitted to us; you can turn it off in system settings.

5. Purchases and Payments

Qianji is free to download, with a selection of articles free to read; a one-time purchase (a non-consumable in-app purchase) unlocks all content. No subscriptions, no auto-renewal.

Payment processing: - iOS/iPadOS: payment is handled directly by the Apple App Store - HarmonyOS NEXT: payment is handled directly by the in-app payment service of Huawei AppGallery - Android: payment is completed via WeChat Pay or Alipay in your system browser On no platform do we collect or store your payment method, card number, or billing details.

Refunds are handled under the rules of the platform through which you purchased (Apple, Huawei, or the relevant payment channel). Once a refund is complete, the corresponding content returns to a locked state, but your local data — bookmarks, notes, and so on — is not deleted.

6. Third-Party Services

Qianji integrates no third-party analytics, crash-reporting, advertising, or push-notification SDKs. Only the purchase flow involves the following platform services: - Apple App Store / StoreKit (iOS in-app purchases and purchase restoration), whose data handling is governed by Apple's privacy policy - Huawei AppGallery / IAP Kit (HarmonyOS in-app purchases), whose data handling is governed by Huawei's privacy policy - WeChat Pay and Alipay (Android payment channels): their checkout pages are opened only in your system browser, and data handling on those pages is governed by the privacy policies of WeChat Pay and Alipay respectively - The AppForges billing service (api.appforges.com): a first-party service operated by us, handling only Android order and entitlement lookups

Sharing and external links: when you use the share feature, the app passes only the article title and attribution through the system share sheet — never the article body. The website link on the About page opens https://appforges.com in your system browser.

7. Children's Privacy

Qianji is a knowledge-reading app for engineers and technical learners and is not intended for children under 13 years of age. We do not knowingly collect a child's name, contact details, reading behavior, or other identifying information. If you believe there is an issue in this regard, please contact privacy@appforges.com.

8. Data Security

We protect your information by: - Storing reading, search, bookmark, highlight, and note data only on your device, protected by the operating system's sandboxing mechanism - Encrypting all communication between the Android app and the billing service with HTTPS; on iOS, App Transport Security (ATS) is enabled, disallowing arbitrary network loads - Following data minimization throughout the purchase flow and processing only the anonymous UUID, IP address, order information, and access logs needed to operate the purchase service, monitor availability, and diagnose issues

Because your data lives on your device, its security also depends on the device itself. We recommend enabling system-level protections such as a lock-screen passcode.

9. Your Rights

You can exercise direct control over data stored on your device at any time: - View and modify: view, edit, or delete bookmarks, highlights, and notes right in the app - Delete everything: uninstall the app (or clear its data in system settings) to remove all local data along with the locally stored anonymous identifier

For technical and transaction data processed by the purchase service, you may contact privacy@appforges.com to request access or deletion. We delete or anonymize data that is no longer needed to operate the purchase service, monitor availability, or diagnose issues, except for transaction records that we must retain by law. Records held by Apple, Huawei, or a payment provider must be managed through the relevant platform. We will respond to your request within 30 days.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. For material changes (for example, a future cloud-sync feature that changes how data is handled), we will notify you through app release notes or by posting the updated policy on our website. The "Last Updated" date at the top indicates the most recent revision.
